Former Dem party official announcing for Metro Council

Jerry Maynard II, who recently ended a term as deputy chairman of the Tennessee Democratic Party, will announce tomorrow morning at the downtown library that he is a candidate in the wide-open race for a Metro Council at-large seat.

Due to term limits or a desire to seek other offices, none of the five current at-large members will return to their posts.

Maynard, 40, is a native of South Bend, Indiana. He moved to Nashville in 1995 to serve as director of legal affairs and risk management for Meharry Medical College. He holds both undergraduate and law degrees from Indiana University.

Aside from his work with the Tennessee Democratic Party, Maynard is CEO of business consulting firm The Maynard Group, pastor of operations for the Cathedral of Praise-Southside, and a practicing attorney.

His father, Bishop Jerry Maynard, is well-known throughout Nashville as the senior pastor of the Cathedral of Praise.
